US House Candidate Tamara Zwinak responds to 2020 Disability Rights North Carolina General Election Questionnaire
2020 Disability Rights North Carolina General Election Questionnaire
US House Question 1
I
am a candidate for US House of Representatives Dist-11 from North
Carolina with a Green platform focused on Healthcare (including the
pandemic response), Sustainability (protecting the environment and
responding to climate change), and protecting Social Security for the
disabled with the goal of passing Universal Basic Income.
US House Question 2
As
a disabled person, I benefited from Vocational Rehabilitation programs
and without them I may never have graduated from college. I will pass
legislation to federally fund Vocational Rehabilitation programs to pay
for college tuition, books and travel expenses for eligible disabled
clients.
US House Question 3
Rural communities have seen
hospitals close and doctors move away as the profits are not sufficient
to cover the cost of running a healthcare business. Government has a
role to play in healthcare if we want to have access in rural
communities. States and municipalities need federal funding to keep
hospitals and clinics open.
US House Question 4
My plan
is to increase generous incentives through the Low Income Housing Tax
Credit to build 10 million affordable housing units across the country
with strong tenant rights protections to end the housing crisis.
US House Question 5
There
is no place for the idea of a "subminium wage" in our economy. Every
working person, whether disabled or not, should be paid a living wage. I
will pass legislation to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 hour.
US House Question 6
Yes,
I will commit to keeping the ADA strong by opposing any changes that
would make it harder to enforce accessibility standards. The ADA was
passed over 30-years-ago. I plan to increase the accessibility
protections for workers with unseen disabilities, including ADHD, PTSD,
Autism and mental illness, where we have not made as much progress as we
have with physical disabilities.
US House Question 7
Any
bill I sponsor will include input from people with disabilities, both
seen and unseen, and organizations that serve the disabled.
